Remember how you felt?

As much as I love sharing stories through video, there’s just something about the way in which a single image can stir memories and emotions. As a photojournalist, each time I look at a photo I shot, I easily recall the entire scene as I closed the shutter. It’s a balance of being respectful but chronicling the first draft of history. At the height of the Iraq war, there were too many funerals. I never wanted to intrude on a private moment but I always felt an obligation to freeze memories for a grieving family. To create something that years later a mom can show her boy to stay connected to a beloved father, a hero.

This child saying goodbye to his dad is a stinging memory all these years later I can still deeply feel.

We were all still shocked. Not knowing what else to do, thousands of LGBTQ and allies quietly walked dozens of blocks into Dallas’ Oak Lawn to grieve together following the Pulse Nightclub massacre. June 2016

1,165 moments captured over 5 years on #JeffsJourneys

Over the course of almost 5 years, I took a moment to, well.. capture a moment that meant something to me each and every day. These photos are a gift to me. I can look back and remember how I felt. I can feel what I hoped for and what I dreamed of in each shot. Just wanted to share a few moments of the #365InFocus journey.
